Contract Paralegal Opportunity

The Inner South-Eastern Local Council is seeking a dedicated Contract Paralegal to join their Legal team on a part-time basis, working three days a week. This role is crucial for supporting the administration of their Legal Services Panel and facilitating effective project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage administrative tasks related to the Legal Services Panel and legal project coordination, ensuring seamless execution and timely completion.
  • Assist with reporting on key internal and external legal matters, providing accurate and comprehensive information to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain systems, policies, and documentation to meet legislative requirements, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
  • Update and monitor external legal suppliers on VendorPanel, fostering strong relationships and effective communication.
  • Serve as the first point of contact, providing high-level administrative support to the Legal team, addressing queries and concerns promptly.
  • Maintain the Legal Intranet page to ensure information is current, accurate, and easily accessible.
  • Process requisitions and tax invoices, and support staff with Council policies and legal procedures, ensuring smooth operations.
Requirements:
  • Confidentiality and Diplomacy: Maintain a high level of discretion when dealing with confidential and commercially sensitive information, upholding the Council's reputation and trust.
  • Judgment and Decision-Making: Trusted advisor in legal administrative support, demonstrating a proactive problem-solving approach and sound judgment.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and communicate complex information clearly.
  • Specialist Knowledge: Familiarity with legal processes (in-house and/or external), and strong attention to detail in data entry and document management, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Commitment to excellent customer service, with the ability to collaborate across various projects and manage complex administrative issues, building strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Qualifications: Experience in a legal administrative or paralegal role, with relevant tertiary qualifications in law, business administration, or related fields, and experience in a legal, regulatory, or governance environment is preferable.
  • Understanding of Local Government functions and decision-making processes and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
