Water Infrastructure Construction Specialist

About the Role

We seek a skilled and motivated Water Infrastructure Construction Specialist to lead our water and sewer mains construction and maintenance team. In this role, you will oversee a work team in the execution of water and sewer infrastructure projects across the region.

This position reports directly to the Major Infrastructure Supervisor and works closely with internal teams and contractors to deliver high-quality infrastructure outcomes for our community.

This includes:

  • Construction and maintenance of wastewater and water reticulation systems and pump stations.
  • Removal of redundant water/wastewater assets including asbestos pipes.
  • Supervision of contractors on site including poly welders, under-borers, and earth moving contractors.
  • Responsible for supervision of deep excavation works in other operational teams to meet SafeWork requirements.
  • Repair main breaks and maintenance rectification of reticulation systems.
  • Installation of Pressure Sewer Units, water/fire services, formwork, and general concreting.
  • Undertaking scheduled maintenance of water and wastewater reticulation systems.
  • Locate and clear sewer chokes (including the use of jet-washing machines, and CCTV equipment).

Requirements

To be successful in the position, you will have:

  • Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or relevant trade qualifications, or considerable experience in the maintenance or construction of wastewater/water systems.
  • Demonstrated competence in construction work, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Current MR Truck Licence or must obtain within 6 months.
  • Demonstrated competency to operate a Backhoe or Excavator.
  • Current NSW First Aid certificate.
  • Current National WHS Construction card (SafeWork).
  • Current NSW SafeWork Confined Spaces Entry certificate.
  • Current NSW SafeWork Traffic Controller Certificate.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Statement of Attainment for Removal of Non-Friable Asbestos.
  • Crane Operation and Dogging Certificate of Competency.
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship, or authority to work in Australia (visa).

Becoming available to be on-call and complete reasonable overtime is a requirement of this position.

The ideal candidate is confident using equipment and machinery in the field and understands the ins and outs of water and sewer infrastructure. You'll have solid experience with deep excavation, including benching and shoring, and know how to read and work from engineering plans. If you work best with hands-on tasks, adhere to safety standards, and take pride in your work while collaboratively working as part of a team, this is the job for you.
