Cultural Leadership Specialist

This position plays a crucial role in advancing our understanding of the cultural connection between Traditional Owners and the Great Barrier Reef. The successful candidate will work closely with Great Barrier Reef Traditional Owners, remote communities, corporations, and bodies established to assist First Nations people.

• A key requirement for this position is the ability to articulate and apply principles of cultural authority, traditional lore, and customs for managing Country.
• The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of government policies and initiatives that contribute to improving outcomes for First Nations people.
• We are seeking a leader with strategic vision who can motivate and inspire others, setting an example through their actions.
• The candidate must be experienced in building and maintaining high-level relationships that achieve enduring partnerships, particularly with First Nations people.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to remain composed and effective when managing competing priorities or complex challenges are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality outcomes, meet deadlines, and achieve organisational goals.
• Provide timely advice to senior executives on the strategic and operational delivery of Reef Authority Programs as they relate to Traditional Owners.
• Develop and maintain high-level relationships by working collaboratively and persuasively with Australian and Queensland government agencies, Traditional Owners, and Marine Park users and stakeholders.
• Negotiate persuasively with internal and external stakeholders, providing high-quality verbal and written briefs, reports, and submissions.
• Improve how the organisation's legislation, policy, and operational delivery achieves culturally appropriate outcomes in a government and/or Traditional Owner setting.
• Foster and promote a culture of risk and safety management across the organisation, suggesting improvements particularly in the delivery of remote field activities.

• Extensive experience working in partnership with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples/communities to apply principles of cultural authority, traditional lore, and customs for managing Country.
• The ability to travel, sometimes overnight or for multiple days, including to remote and regional locations.
• Holding and maintaining a current unrestricted Australian issued driver's licence (preferably with 4-wheel drive experience) or being able to obtain one within a reasonable time frame.
