Job Overview

Virgin Australia Airlines is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Workplace Relations to join our team. As a key member of our People Services department, you will be responsible for providing strategic advice on employment and workplace relations matters, representing the company in employment and industrial tribunals, and managing employment and industrial litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic, commercial, and timely advice to the business on a wide range of employment and workplace relations issues.
  • Represent the company as an advocate in employment and industrial tribunals, including the Fair Work Commission and the Australian Human Rights Commission.
  • Manage employment and industrial litigation matters, working closely with internal and external legal teams to minimize external legal spend and impact to the business.
  • Develop and implement the Virgin Australia workplace relations strategy, working closely with the General Manager of Workplace Relations and other executives.
  • Lead team members and act as a coach and mentor to other colleagues in the group, providing training and support on employment and workplace relations legal issues.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years' leadership experience in contemporary workplace relations, with a broad experience that includes managing litigation and appearing as an advocate in employment and industrial relations tribunals.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law, or equivalent business qualification.
  • Extensive experience leading Enterprise Agreement negotiations in a geographically dispersed and unionized environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian employment environment, with the ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, trends, and ongoing developments in workplace relations.
  • Broad experience in managing employment litigation, transformational and change activities within a complex/multi-site operation, and employee and union consultation.
