Carer Peer Worker Opportunity

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Carer Peer Worker to join our team at EACH. As a Carer Peer Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting carers of individuals with mental illness or substance dependence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one peer support to carers, facilitating a deeper understanding of their experiences and challenges.
  • Lead support groups, promoting a sense of community and connection among carers.
  • Offer secondary consultation to staff, enhancing their understanding of carer perspectives and needs.
  • Utilize Intentional Peer Support principles to foster empathetic relationships with carers and staff.
  • Participate in monthly peer supervision and reflective practice sessions to ensure alignment with recovery-oriented frameworks.
About the Role:

This is a part-time (0.6FTE) position until July 2025, with the potential to extend. You will be based in Port Macquarie, with outreach work within the community. The successful candidate will receive a competitive hourly rate, plus superannuation and salary packaging options.

Requirements:
  • Has served as a primary carer for someone with mental illness or substance dependence, offering a deep understanding of the carer recovery journey.
  • Excels in group facilitation, written and verbal communication, and IT proficiency.
  • Is dedicated to human rights, social justice, and trauma-informed care, with experience working in diverse communities being highly desirable.
  • Maintains professional boundaries, practices self-care, and adopts a positive, person-centred approach.
  • Holds or is working towards a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, Intentional Peer Support core training, or Single Session Family Consultation training for carer peer workers (highly desirable).
