Senior Construction Lawyer Opportunity

This is a key leadership role in a tier-one national construction practice, led by partners recognised in Chambers APAC, Legal 500, and Best Lawyers.

You'll be the most senior front-end construction lawyer in Melbourne, working with a special counsel and supported by a team of associates across front-end and back-end matters. Partners in Sydney and Brisbane are involved in the Melbourne market, giving you national support with local leadership opportunity.

You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the practice in Victoria, manage key client relationships, act as the primary local advisor on front-end matters, and have a clear path to partnership as the team grows.

The role involves advising on projects across the entire country, providing national scope, variety, and a strategic perspective to your work.

You'll advise on procurement and delivery for major capital works — including PPP, EPC, D&C, and O&M arrangements, alliance contracting, and consultancy agreements. The work is technically demanding with cross-border investment, joint ventures, and complex risk allocations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead front-end construction matters for major infrastructure and energy projects in Victoria, with national involvement.
  • Manage key client relationships and act as primary local advisor on front-end matters.
  • Collaborate with a special counsel and associates across front-end and back-end matters.
  • Contribute to practice development and progression toward partnership.
  • Support cross-border and multi-jurisdictional projects with strategic risk allocation.
Requirements:
  • Senior associate with strong experience in energy and infrastructure construction; ideally including PPP or government-led projects.
  • Ability to lead and shape the Victoria practice and contribute to growth toward partnership.
  • Experience in procurement and delivery for major capital works and related contracts.
