International Engagement Officers

The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for developing and implementing Australia's domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, sovereignty, border integrity, and national infrastructure resilience.

Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and customs service, the Australian Border Force, is part of the Department. It works to protect Australia's borders while facilitating the legitimate movement of people and goods across them.

The International Division represents Home Affairs' interests and priorities internationally and with whole-of-Government counterparts on complex, contemporary policy challenges. This includes liaison and coordination with stakeholders, including international engagement officers posted overseas, portfolio agencies, and other government departments and agencies.

About the Roles
  • Multiple positions are available in the Asia Branch, which engages with Asian counterparts on priority issues like migration, border security, counter-terrorism, irregular migration, and transnational crime.
  • The Asia Branch leads the Department's engagement with ASEAN, APEC, the Bali Process, and other regional fora.
  • It develops and manages capacity building projects across the region and collaborates with officers at post to support Regional Directors and deliver high-quality strategic outcomes.
