Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical Engineering Team in Perth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong leadership and technical skills to lead a team of geotechnical professionals in ensuring the geotechnical assurance across all of our Pilbara Mining Operations.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the resources industry, a strong multi-disciplinary and multi-commodity background, and competency in Risk Management and Risk Assessment. The role requires a good understanding of the geotechnical requirements aligned with the risk profile as projects transition from early stage exploration through OOM, PFS and FS. Proven ability to work collaboratively with senior technical professionals and senior leaders to achieve outcomes through the sharing of expertise, skills and technical capability is also essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and work in a way that puts health, safety and wellbeing of employees as a first priority.
  • Develop effective relationships with site based operational and technical leadership to promote the proactive implementation of our slope risk management standard.
  • Ensuring the team has appropriate resources and training to succeed in their roles.
  • Mentor and provide coaching to direct team members and identify where coaching may be needed within the broader geotechnical community of 70+ professionals.
  • Facilitating the interaction between the Life of Mine team and other key stakeholders to produce the best outcome for Rio Tinto.
