About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Chemical Pathology Trainee to join our team in a tertiary level hospital laboratory, responsible for chemical pathology testing, including adult, obstetric and paediatric General Chemistry, Protein Chemistry, Endocrinology, Point-of-Care testing, Biochemical Genetics and Molecular Genetics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical advice and information to clinicians ensuring optimal patient care.
  • Evaluate and implement equipment and methods to ensure appropriateness and relevance for testing.
  • Deliver accurate and unambiguous results and interpretations with timely reporting of important findings to clinicians.
  • Supervise laboratory scientists and report to chemical pathologists to ensure results are reviewed and reported appropriately.
  • Participate in clinical meetings providing clinical and scientific input into laboratory management.
  • Engage in continuous professional development with chemical pathologists and scientific staff through Journal Club participation.
  • Contribute to sessional training of medical students and RACP Endocrinology Advanced Trainees as applicable.

Requirements:

  • Hold an MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Be registered with AHPRA.
  • Enroll with the RCPA as a pathology trainee.
  • Prior experience in a laboratory preferably in chemical pathology.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and ability to coordinate processes and staff in a clinical environment.
