The Shopfront Youth Legal Centre is seeking a Solicitor to provide legal representation and advice for young people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage. The role involves working closely with staff, solicitors, and volunteers to deliver free legal services and related social support.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal representation and advice for victim/survivors of sexual assault and family violence
- Advise and support victims and witnesses around criminal charges and AVO applications
- Advocate with police and other agencies
- Refer clients for redress or civil claims
- Represent defendants with complex needs in the Local Court
Required Skills and Qualifications:
At least 2 years' post-admission experience, expertise in victims support applications, criminal law advocacy, or demonstrated capacity to develop further expertise in these areas. The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients with high and complex needs, particularly those with trauma history, mental health issues, and cognitive impairments. Strong organizational skills, initiative, flexibility, and ability to handle high-volume and changing workloads are essential.
