Job Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to support our environmental conservation efforts as a Campaigner.
The role involves executing a campaign plan to reduce the environmental impacts of coal industry operations in the Lithgow region, while advocating for reduced harm to river and groundwater systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a campaign strategy aligned with our alliance's objectives.
- Engage supporters, member groups, and the community through targeted campaign actions designed to build support and influence decision-making.
- Foster strong alliances and partnerships with key stakeholders to achieve tangible results.
- Identify and analyze critical environmental issues, particularly those concerning mining industry impacts on water resources.
- Prepare concise summaries, briefing notes, and reports to inform advocacy efforts and policy changes.
- Contribute to regulatory processes and influence policy decisions affecting water pollution and mine operations.
- Develop compelling content for campaign materials, media briefings, and website updates to effectively communicate complex environmental issues.
- Monitor progress and provide regular reports to our organization.
Required Skills:
- Essential:
- Proven experience working on advocacy campaigns, ideally in the environmental sector.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for crafting clear and compelling campaign messages.
- Ability to analyze complex technical information and present it in clear, accessible formats.
- Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with allies and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and problem-solve effectively.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Commitment to environmental conservation.
- Current driver's license and access to a registered vehicle.
- Desirable:
- Extensive experience working on advocacy campaigns, particularly in the environmental sector.
- Science degree or relevant field (e.g., political science, communication, planning, environmental science).
- Understanding of community organizing theory and practice.
- Technical knowledge in statistics, geology, hydrology, freshwater ecology, and/or terrestrial ecology.
- Knowledge of NSW environmental planning legislation and water management policies.

Our alliance is dedicated to protecting the natural environment and cultural heritage of the Gardens of Stone area.
Members include Blue Mountains Conservation Society, Lithgow Environment Group, Wilderness Australia, Nature Conservation Council of NSW, 4nature, National Parks Association of NSW, Bushwalking NSW.
A key focus is reducing the environmental harm caused by local coal mines and the Mount Piper Power Station, which threaten the Gardens of Stone, the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, and Sydney's drinking water supply.
Advocacy goals include stopping coal industry water pollution, improving water quality standards, and transitioning towards zero carbon emissions.
