Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional for the role of Chief Scientist in the Molecular & Microbiology division. This full-time position offers an opportunity to lead a dynamic team focused on scientific excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and guide a team of Scientists, Technical Officers, and Laboratory Assistants.
- Ensure the technical delivery of services across the region.
- Develop and validate methodologies for the detection, isolation, and identification of microorganisms from diverse samples.
- Analyze data and compile comprehensive reports to support clinical diagnostics, research initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
- Stay abreast of advancements in microbiology and integrate best practices within the laboratory.
- Maintain and update laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to technical staff to foster professional growth in laboratory management and testing competencies.
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients regarding testing schedules, methodologies, procedures, and results.
- Initiate and implement quality improvement strategies, including regular assessments of performance metrics.
- Ensure the laboratory adheres to quality standards and effectively performs tasks in alignment with the Quality System manual.
- Manage Work Health and Safety compliance, focusing on risk management, incident handling, injury management, training, inspections, and audits.
- Uphold Quality Standards to guarantee the delivery of high-quality services.
Candidate Profile:
To qualify for this role, candidates must possess the following:
- A Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience and expertise in the relevant scientific disciplines.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and familiarity with laboratory equipment.
- Strong understanding of Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance Processes (QAP), and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Demonstrated capability to identify, develop, and execute quality and service enhancement initiatives in accordance with accreditation standards.
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in work.
- This position may require proof of vaccination history for specific preventative diseases.
