About the Net Zero Economy Agency

The Net Zero Economy Agency (NZEA) is an Executive Agency within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). Established on 1 July 2023, the Agency is focused on promoting orderly and positive economic transformation as the world decarbonises, to ensure Australia, its regions and workers realise and share the benefits of the net zero economy.

What We Do

The Agency has the job of leading the detailed design and establishment of the Authority, and the intended functions of the legislated Authority which include:

  • Investment facilitation – catalysing investment in new industries and jobs, particularly in emissions-intensive regions.
  • Worker transition – supporting workers impacted by net zero transition, particularly workers in coal-fired power stations and dependent mines, transition to new opportunities.
  • Policy coordination and coherence – helping coordinate policy and program design and delivery for an orderly and positive net zero economic transformation, through advice to government and by working on-the-ground in key regions.
  • Communications and engagement – building community understanding, confidence and engagement with net zero economic transformation.
Who We Are Looking For

This is an exciting time to join as you'll be helping to shape the Agency and future Authority. We are seeking expressions of interest from highly motivated, adaptable individuals with a wide range of expertise and transferable skills to join us. If you have a background in (but not limited to) investment facilitation, policy, First Nations and community engagement and workplace relations, then we want to hear from you. A strong interest in Australia's transition to net zero and the challenges facing regions and their communities, industry and government is also desirable.

Eligibility

Applicants must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing. Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated. All NZEA (PM&C) staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.

Successful applicants will be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as a National Criminal History Check, and will be subject to a six-month probation period.
