About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Services Engineer to join our team in Sydney. As a Technical Services Engineer, you will be responsible for advising customers and solving their complex MongoDB problems. You will be an expert in the entire MongoDB ecosystem, including database server, drivers, cloud, and infrastructure.

You will work closely with our largest customers and partners, resolving their complex issues and providing expert guidance on architecture, performance, recovery, security, and more. You will also be an advocate for customers' and partners' needs, working with our product management and development teams on their behalf.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical support to customers and partners, resolving complex issues and providing guidance on MongoDB architecture, performance, recovery, security, and more.
  • Work closely with our product management and development teams to ensure that customer and partner needs are met.
  • Develop and maintain complex mission-critical production database systems.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers and partners, providing exceptional customer service and support.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest MongoDB technologies and trends, and share knowledge with the team.
Requirements
  • Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of Networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.).
  • Experience managing large scale databases (e.g. RDBMS or NoSQL).
  • Storage engineering experience, including NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching.
  • Experience building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems.
  • Ability to read and write code, and basic coding/scripting ability in one or more languages: Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, Javascript, Go, etc.
  • Experience working with APIs and other application integration technologies.
  • Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Ability to analyze issues holistically, from the application tier through the database, down to the storage.
  • Genuine desire to help people.
  • Ability to think on your feet, remain calm under pressure, and solve problems in real-time.
  • Desire and ability to rapidly learn a wide variety of new technical skills.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively amongst cross functional teams (partner, sales, support, customer success, etc).
  • Willingness and clarity of thoughts to be able to work in ambiguous multi-party situations where motivations and incentives are sometimes misaligned.
  • General understanding of partner ecosystems.
Bonus Points
  • Experience in one or more programming languages developing applications using a NoSQL or SQL database.
  • Strong understanding of authentication systems such as LDAP, Kerberos, AD.
  • Experience using or managing MongoDB.
  • Experience using distributed version control systems, and in particular git.
  • Experience using any cloud services stack such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other orchestration systems using vendor-specific Enterprise operators.
  • Experience in working software product teams, and familiarity with product release processes from planning to release.
  • Experience with one or more 3rd party partner technologies and software in the areas of security and fraud, big data analytics and AI, healthcare, content management, IoT, database performance monitoring and management; financial services, healthcare services, telco etc.
Success Measures
  • In 3 months, you'll have gained a deep understanding of MongoDB and its partner ecosystem. You will complete New Hire Training.
  • In 6 months, you will be comfortable working frontline with our customers and partners. You will also complete the MongoDB Certified DBA Associate exam.
  • In 12 months, you will be a technical specialist within MongoDB and will be helping your peer engineers in advance diagnostics. Also, you will be encouraged to handle technical escalations independently.
