Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Training Officer to support the development of training programs within our maritime operations unit. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in adult education techniques and training best practices, with the ability to develop and deliver high-quality training courses and programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training strategies that meet industry requirements and national standards.
  • Assess, monitor, evaluate, and continuously improve all training and assessment strategies, practices, programs, and participants.
  • Oversee the development of training packages, VET accredited course requirements, and internal course materials in accordance with national training packages and relevant policies.
  • Coordinate course curriculum, manage records, and allocate tasks applicable to the state water police training section.
  • Contribute to the development of service policy relating to maritime training outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain effective networks within our organization and external agencies.
Requirements
  • Mandatory
  • Meet color vision and medical requirements for domestic seafarers' qualifications related to Navigation and or Lookout duties, as per AMSA form 1850 (Standards for the Medical Examination of Domestic Seafarers).
  • Hold a valid Australian driver's licence (Queensland Open Class C without A condition).
Techncial Requirements
  • Hold qualifications including TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, equivalent or higher, MAR30821 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver grade 2 Near Coastal), and MAR30921 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master less than 24 metres Near Coastal) or equivalent, and hold AMSA Domestic Certificate of Competency (Vessel qualification) for each qualification or have the ability to obtain it.
  • It is desirable that applicants can quickly meet ASQA requirements to undertake training (Nationally recognised - QPS RTO 1549) and have technical skills and experience to train members and meet AMSA Mandated Practical Assessments for QPS RTO requirements.
Other Requirements
  • Delivery of training and assessment can be within a classroom, workplace, simulated, and online learning environments. Other training materials may require media productions and electronic aids.
  • Successful applicants will be required to attain and maintain marine certification and operational proficiency appropriate to this role.
  • This position requires the ability to travel within and outside the state of Queensland and work and live aboard vessels. Deployments may be up to 10 days in duration.
