About the Role

Chubb, a leading global insurance company, is seeking an experienced External Reporting Manager to join its team. As a key member of the organization, you will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reporting in accordance with deadlines, both internal and regulatory, for both Australia and New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Coordination: Oversee the External Reporting Team to ensure tasks are prioritized and delivered in accordance with deadlines.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support, including researching new accounting standards and regulatory changes, such as APRA and RBNZ.
  • Task Review and Approval: Review and approve tasks completed by the team, including journals.
  • Return Preparation: Prepare quarterly and annual APRA and RBNZ returns in conjunction with the external reporting team.
  • Enterprise Risk Reports: Prepare quarterly Enterprise Risk Reports and Board Papers in accordance with meeting dates, ensuring commentary is meaningful and accurate.
  • Board Document Delivery: Deliver Board documents to the Company Secretary in accordance with agenda.
  • Financial Statement Review: Review annual financial statements and half-year accounts for New Zealand.
  • Blackline Reconciliation: Review and sign-off of Blackline reconciliations approved by the team.
  • Investment Accounting: Oversee investment accounting and transfers of excess cash to/from the investment portfolio, including resolving any issues that may arise.
  • IFRS17 Reporting: Coordinate IFRS17 reporting with local, regional, and central teams, including monitoring processing of system feeds to Peoplesoft, including Aptitude and actuarial feeds.
  • Audit Coordination: Coordinate the external audit on a day-to-day basis to ensure the audit team is provided with information requested from the business and the audit is completed as efficiently as possible.
  • External Auditor Requests: Fulfill requests from external auditors as required.
  • Capital Plans: Coordinate annual capital plans, review output, and prepare narrative for meetings with the CFO and Regional office.
  • Team Mentoring: Provide mentoring and training to team members as required.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement continuous improvement initiatives, including the use of Alteryx and other tools.
  • Payment and Transfer Approval: Approve payments and transfers in various banking platforms and internal systems on a roster basis.
  • Ad-Hoc Requests: Fulfill ad-hoc internal and external requests as required.
Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years of work experience in accounting within an insurance environment.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a team.
  • Qualifications: Holds a CA or CPA qualification.
  • Advanced Excel Skills: Advanced excel skills.
  • Communication Skills: Proven oral and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to Detail: Proven attention to detail.
  • Time Management: Effective time management skills.
  • External Reporting Experience: External reporting experience preferred.
  • General Insurance Experience: Experience working in general insurance preferred.
  • IFRS17 Knowledge: Knowledge of IFRS17 reporting highly desired.
