Empower the Next Generation of STEM Professionals

The Curious Minds initiative is an eight-month program that aims to inspire and develop 120 Australian girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As a volunteer STEM Coach, you will play a vital role in shaping the future careers of these young women.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Inspire confidence in young women by sharing your passion for STEM.
  • Develop your teaching and coaching skills through our comprehensive training and support programs.
  • Create meaningful connections with a group of like-minded female STEM professionals.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of potential STEM professionals.
Program Details

Our program takes place mostly online, with some in-person time required. You will be matched with a student based on shared STEM interests and geographical location. We provide extensive training and support to ensure your success.

We incorporate two camps: an in-person Summer Camp and an online Winter Camp. You will attend Summer Camp for one day to meet your student, and we encourage you to join us for Winter Camp as well.

Throughout the program, you will maintain regular contact with your student, guiding them in building their skills and confidence in STEM. This may involve discussing study options, helping with extension work, or inviting them to your workplace for a visit.

Modules will be provided to give you and your student ideas for useful projects and activities.

Commitments and Requirements
  • Attend webinar training and catch-ups with our team and other STEM Coaches.
  • Participate in one day of Summer Camp to meet your student and initiate mentoring.
  • Connect with your student every three weeks, providing guidance and support in STEM exploration and career development.
  • Join our online wrap-up session during Winter Camp to celebrate the group's achievements.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Proven interest in STEM activities.
  • Desire and capability to work with high school students.
  • Valid Working with Children Check or state equivalent.
  • Ability to commit to time requirements.
  • Residency in Australia during the program; no work visa sponsorship.
