Caseworker Role

The role of the Integrated Case Management Caseworker involves delivering high-quality casework services to young people who are subject to a youth justice intervention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain cultural competence to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with human rights principles and supports departmental programs aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Deliver statutory casework services to young people using assessment and intervention skills, working closely with families, community organisations, and other key stakeholders in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Prepare and present information and evidence to the Children's Court, including conducting pre- and post-court interviews, liaising with court stakeholders, and preparing reports and documentation as required.
  • Foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and service providers to establish therapeutic alliances and achieve quality casework outcomes.
  • Coordinate the development of case plans with consistent action-oriented goals to support young people and their families, addressing areas such as employment, education, substance misuse, physical and mental health, housing, parenting skills, anti-social behaviour, and community participation.
  • Maintain accurate records and manage information effectively to ensure accountability and compliance with policy and procedures.
  • Liaise with Youth Justice Service Centre staff to manage complex cases, develop programs, and exercise statutory delegations.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and competencies in contemporary best practice principles and current trends.
  • Engage in regular supervision, self-reflection, and peer supervision to maintain a high level of performance.
  • Take on leadership and mentoring roles to support less experienced staff, including supervising Youth Workers involved in the Integrated Case Management Program.
