About the Role

The ARF/RHD Program Support/Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) plays a crucial role in the delivery of our culturally responsive primary health care program.

This position contributes to the prevention of Acute Rheumatic Fever and/or Rheumatic Heart Disease (ARF/RHD) among Congress clients living with ARF/RHD.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to implement community-based strategies for early detection, adherence to treatment, improved health education and literacy, improved access to care, and environmental hygiene.

The ALO will provide a health promotion/liaison service between the community and Congress, offering advice on cultural and community issues important to Aboriginal people.

This position also involves facilitating targeted community outreach services across regions, including town and remote locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement community-based strategies for early detection and management of ARF/RHD;
  • Provide health promotion and liaison services to the community;
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement culturally responsive care plans;
  • Foster strong relationships with community leaders and stakeholders to enhance engagement and participation;
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on program activities and outcomes.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as health science or social work;
  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and histories;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote and multicultural environment;
  • Experience working in Indigenous health or a related field.
