Casual Ecologist Opportunity

We seek a highly motivated and skilled ecologist to undertake ecological surveys and assessments across the NSW Mid North Coast region.

Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals in ecology, zoology, environmental science, natural resource management, or related disciplines. You will assist in delivering ecological services, including fieldwork that may be conducted during various times of day and on weekends.

You will work alongside experienced ecologists and senior ecologists, receiving on-the-ground training to develop your field skills and ecological understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ecological surveys and assessments
  • Participate in fieldwork, including day, night, early morning/pre-dawn, and weekend shifts
  • Develop field skills and ecological understanding under the guidance of experienced ecologists
  • Contribute to the delivery of real-world environmental projects

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification (minimum undergraduate) in Ecology/Science/Environmental Science/Applied Science/Natural Resource Management/Zoology or equivalent
  • Class C Driver's Licence and ability to drive manual vehicles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal
  • Flexibility and availability for day, night, early morning/pre-dawn, and weekend fieldwork
  • Ability to travel away from home for periods of time, typically in NSW mid north coast, NSW northern tablelands, and northern NSW
  • Willingness to work in remote locations and on active construction sites
  • Self-motivation and initiative with the ability to manage responsibilities and perform tasks with guidance and supervision

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Local knowledge of NSW Mid North Coast flora and fauna
  • Previous experience with ecological surveys and/or data collection
  • Well-developed biodiversity and environmental assessment report writing skills
  • An understanding of NSW environmental and biodiversity legislation
