Job Summary

This role involves working as a fish ecologist, with a focus on river and wetland ecology and conservation. You will be contributing to quality research undertaken at the Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research.

As a fish ecologist, you will be passionate about understanding and protecting Victoria's aquatic ecosystems. You will have experience in conducting fish surveys and will contribute to the delivery of quality research. The role requires field work, data management, and report writing.

The successful candidate will have a science degree and work experience with a focus on fish ecology. They will have high-level competency in freshwater and estuarine fish identification and survey techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to fish and fish-habitat monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Participate in, support, and plan and manage conservation and ecology surveys and projects in the field and office.
  • Contribute to advice, reports, scientific articles, conference presentations, and other communication outputs.
Requirements
  • A science degree and work experience with a focus on fish ecology.
  • A high level of competency in freshwater and estuarine fish identification and survey techniques.
  • Ability to participate in, support, and under supervision, plan and manage conservation and ecology surveys and projects in the field and office.
  • Ability to contribute to multi-disciplinary research teams.
  • Postgraduate qualification in science or natural resource management with a focus on fish ecology.

About This Role
