The role of a Leading Border Force Officer is a challenging and rewarding position that requires a unique blend of skills and qualifications.

About the Role

As a leading border force officer, you will be responsible for undertaking border clearance and enforcement operations in the Canberra International Airport precinct. This may include planning activities such as resource deployment and operations management.

You will facilitate legitimate trade and travel while preventing, deterring, and detecting the illegal movement of people across Australia's borders and the unlawful movement of prohibited, restricted, or regulated goods into Australia.

Your duties may also include undertaking more complex intervention activities with import/export air cargo and travellers, which may involve physical examination of goods and baggage, x-ray and testing using trace and/or substance technologies, personal search of travellers, and questioning of travellers and airport personnel.

Main Responsibilities
  • Undertake complex interventions with air cargo and travellers, including physical examinations, x-rays, and questioning.
  • Maintain awareness of new intelligence products and current risks and threats across operational functions.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting in accordance with guidelines.
Requirements
  • Meet medical, fitness, and psychometric requirements to ensure operational readiness.
  • Be sworn through subscribing to the ABF oath or affirmation.
  • Adhere to uniform standards unless exempt due to specific job requirements.
