About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Family Support Professional to join our team at Barnardos Australia. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing case management services to children and families in need, with a focus on family preservation and restoration. This role requires a high level of discretion, empathy, and cultural competence, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake primary case work role and deliver a service to children and families through regular home visiting
  • Conduct SCARF assessments in partnership with families and other agencies
  • Review progress with families in an appropriate timeframe
  • Provide advocacy services on behalf of clients to other organizations and government departments
  • Refer families to external services where necessary to meet their needs
  • Maintain a child-focused approach in case work, while supporting parents to maintain or re-establish parental responsibilities
  • Provide practical assistance to alleviate poverty and disadvantage
  • Monitor child protection issues and act in accordance with The NSW Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998

About You

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Knowledge of child development and parenting capacity
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and its delivery
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people in a child protection context, including knowledge of current legislation
  • Demonstrated experience working with families in need of support services
  • Able to use electronic case management tools
  • Availability to participate in a 24-hour on-call roster to support kin carers, birth families, and their children/young people

Selection Criteria
