Job Description

The Legal Specialist will play a vital role in assisting with the preparation and strategic management of work injury damages (WID) claims, managing litigation, and other legally based claims. This role will also undertake legal project work and support a structured review of a portfolio of claims that drive performance outcomes and uplift the technical capability of the business.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Sydney or Newcastle, where you will be part of a diverse team making a positive impact on someone's life every day. You will feel great satisfaction knowing your talent and hard work has a purpose.

  • Provide expert legal advice on legislative, regulatory, policy, and guidelines requirements affecting workers' compensation claims and employer premium.
  • Manage, assist, and review legal advice including common law damages claims and statutory workers' compensation benefits.
  • Stay up-to-date with case law and precedents affecting claims, premium, and the scheme.
  • Assist with drafting of legal notices and correspondence.
  • Participate in the strategic portfolio review of claims.

About the Role:

  • Preferably 3 years PQE, including legal practice in a Workers Compensation team managing Workers Compensation Commission litigation, work injury damages matter, and advising in Workers Compensation claims.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar legal role working within a fast-paced business environment.
  • Current unrestricted NSW practice certificate highly regarded.
  • Strong drafting experience, including notices and submissions.
  • Strong people and stakeholder management skills and experience.
