Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented individual to join our Field Service team as a Field Service Apprentice. The successful candidate will assist Field Service Engineers in troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) equipment at customer sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Field Service Engineers in meeting daily service repair needs and driving customer satisfaction
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of equipment in the field, including installation and troubleshooting
  • Document all inspections, maintenance, and repair work, and submit paperwork in a timely fashion
  • Order, install, and return parts, and manage repair parts cycle time
  • Assist Field Service Engineers in ensuring that tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated
  • Assist in assessing product/equipment performance based on field support data
  • Participate in site surveys, pilot program service activities, and attend meetings
  • Maintain professional communication proficiency, both oral and written
  • Establish and maintain a close relationship with Field Service Engineers to continuously learn and support customer needs
  • Exercise every available measure to control and minimize costs
  • Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety, and environmental policies
Requirements
  • Enrolled in Certificate III in Electrical Machine Repair or an equivalent course aligned to Smiths Detection Australia's service organisation
  • No experience required, but some previous formal paid or voluntary work experience is desirable
  • Good communication skills and a strong orientation for customer focus and teamwork
  • Ability to travel at short notice and be on-call as per the roster
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and accountable individual
  • Clean driver's license
  • Ability to acquire relevant security clearance and industry-related licenses when possible/applicable
