Research Opportunity

This is a key role in the astrophysics group.

  • The successful applicant will contribute towards the research effort of UNSW Sydney's School of Physics and develop their research expertise as part of a team led by Prof Dennis Stello.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing cutting-edge research on asteroseismology (particularly solar-like oscillations) in relation to data from space missions like Kepler/K2/TESS/Roman/Gaia (particularly Kepler) and ground-based sources (including Galah/APOGEE/LAMOST).
  • Developing and applying sophisticated software analysis tools for the analysis, and merging, of large multi-dimensional data sets (time series and single epoch).
  • Publishing high-quality research in leading scientific journals.
  • Attending and presenting at national and international conferences as required.
  • Contributing independently and collaborating with members of the research group.
Requirements

A PhD in Astrophysics with a focus on stellar astrophysics and asteroseismology is essential. The successful applicant will also have demonstrated experience in advanced data analysis and/or stellar modelling in the realm of stellar astrophysics and asteroseismology.

They must be able to conduct independent research and publish in leading international scientific journals. A strong research track record, excellent communication skills, and an ability to work effectively as part of a research team are crucial.
