About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Operational Safety Lead to join our team in Darwin Port. This exciting opportunity will see you play a key role in ensuring the safe delivery of operational plans and objectives, while contributing to our strategic vision for Zero Harm across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist site personnel in developing site and task-specific risk assessments, operational procedures, and work instructions, conducting ongoing reviews of their effectiveness and compliance with risk control measures.
  • Develop and/or review site inductions in line with Qube and owner requirements, considering employees from diverse backgrounds.
  • Liaise with third-party site representatives and regulatory bodies for investigations, information gathering, joint risk assessments, and communicating the Qube SHS Management Plan.
  • Drive established SHS consultation and communications processes, including WHS Representatives, Committees, and toolbox meetings.
  • Provide site leadership and assistance in developing a safety culture and environment consistent across all safety-critical functions.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor site SHS Management Plans to meet performance targets and corporate requirements.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor inspection and audit programs, including maritime safety requirements, mentoring staff in these activities.
  • Implement change management standards when processes change on site, ensuring objectives are met and complied with.
  • Advise and support site managers in adhering to legislative and legal obligations regarding WHS and workers' compensation.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach site operations staff on SHS accountabilities, ensuring effective implementation of SMS on site.
  • Support site-based management on RTW and Injury Management.
  • Analyze site SHS performance, identifying trends, and follow-up initiatives addressing current or emerging trends.
  • Compile high-quality monthly reporting on SHS performance.
  • Provide ongoing advice on best practice SHS, staying current with regulatory and industry matters, including legislation, codes of practice, standards, and shared resources.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in OHS/WHS.
  • A minimum of five years leading in an operational SHS environment.
  • Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM).
  • Experience in implementing and managing safety management systems.
  • Identification and implementation of effective SHS initiatives.
  • Ability to develop tactical plans to address safety issues.
  • Heavy industry experience (mobile plant, lifting) preferred.
  • Return to Work Coordinator.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is AU$90,000 - AU$120,000 per annum, depending on experience.
