Position Overview
The Principal Mechanical Engineer plays a pivotal role within our Engineering Services division. Collaborating with a skilled multi-disciplinary team, you will oversee the design, execution, and maintenance of the University’s HVAC systems and specialized laboratory service infrastructure. This role involves working closely with various teams, including Facilities Management, Asset Management, and Major Projects, to ensure seamless operations across all University locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing design specifications, providing project guidance, conducting testing oversight, managing contract agreements, and ensuring adherence to Griffith University’s design standards and safety protocols.
- Participating in the strategic development of the University’s infrastructure to align with current and future research and educational needs.
- Leading the mechanical engineering and Building Management Systems (BMS) teams, serving as the subject matter expert and mentor to junior engineers.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A recognized degree in mechanical engineering in Australia, with the capability to design, review, and manage energy-efficient mechanical systems based on a comprehensive cost analysis.
- RPEQ registration.
- Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering, particularly in chilled water systems, air conditioning with humidity control, and laboratory systems, with a background in both design and project execution.
- A strong understanding of relevant industry standards and codes of practice.
- A passion for enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability of building services.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
