Aboriginal Population Health Trainee

The NSW Aboriginal Population Health Training Initiative offers a unique opportunity to undertake a traineeship in Aboriginal population health, incorporating work-based placements within the health service and part-time study towards a Master of Public Health degree at a NSW-based university.

About the Role
  • This exciting three-year traineeship will involve completing a series of work-based placements within the health service to gain hands-on experience in public health.
  • During this time, you will also undertake part-time study towards a Master of Public Health degree at a NSW-based university.

You will be embedded in various rotations, including:

Child Youth and Family Health team
  • Addressing child and youth health service delivery and evaluation
  • Engaging with Aboriginal communities on health-related issues
Public Health team
  • Developing and implementing vaccine promotion programs
  • Investigating and responding to outbreaks
Planetary Health team
  • Working on climate change messaging and advocacy

To succeed in this role, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Have sound knowledge of social, cultural, political and health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities
  • Have demonstrated experience in project design, data collation and presentation, and report-writing
  • Hold a recognised undergraduate degree and/or be able to meet the admission requirements for the post graduate degree of Master of Public Health at a university in NSW
