About the Role

The Clinical Nursing Unit Manager is a key leadership position responsible for providing frontline management of the Emergency Medicine Nursing Unit on a shift-to-shift basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring quality emergency nursing care delivery within the contemporary Models of Care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the efficient and effective management of the clinical team in Emergency Medicine.
  • Create an empowering work environment that enables the transfer of knowledge into practice.
  • Functions as a clinical leader assisting staff in coordinating patient care and flow through the ED and ESSU.
  • Leadership and clinical supervision during rostered shifts.
  • Act as a senior clinician and role model for nursing staff to foster the delivery of best practice nursing care within the professional boundaries and in accordance with ANCSI competencies, legal and ethical parameters and NSW Health and HNE and LCM Health policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the management of workforce functions for the unit including recruitment, induction, professional development, performance reviews and performance management.
  • Attend unit rounds with members of the multi-disciplinary team where appropriate and lead discussions regarding clinical concerns.
  • Monitor and coordinate flow in and out of the unit, discharge planning process in Emergency and ESSU and liaise with NMCR regarding admissions and emergency requirements.
  • Foster close relationships with other units and services within the CMN and HNELHD to enhance the patient experience of a continuous seamless health support journey.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse authorised to practise by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Extensive and current expertise in Emergency Nursing – including Post Graduate Emergency Nursing or relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Proven clinical management capability in an Emergency Department including experience in supporting clinical staff skill mix, patient acuity management and patient flow.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and share professional expertise, coach, mentor and guide others to enable them to reach their full potential.
  • Focus on service excellence through the ability to manage situations impacting on achievement of service delivery outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in stressful situations and an environment with high demands and activity.
