Aurizon is seeking a qualified legal professional to join our high-performing legal team as a Legal Counsel. With our ongoing expansion and interstate acquisitions, Aurizon is now a nationwide leader, making this an exciting time to be part of our journey.

As a Legal Counsel in the Aurizon legal team, you will work closely with other lawyers and paralegals to provide commercially driven legal advice, focusing primarily on commercial contracting, procurement, corporate advisory, employment, safety and environment.

This role will be based out of our near new head office in Fortitude Valley, close to the James Street precinct, and may be either full time or part time (0.8 FTE). We offer a hybrid model for flexible working.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, commercially focused legal support on a day-to-day basis, covering a broad range of legal matters, including commercial contracting, procurement, corporate advisory, employment, safety and environmental issues.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts to support all aspects of Aurizon's operations, ensuring alignment with our business objectives.
  • Interact with and manage external legal advisors as necessary to ensure the best outcomes for Aurizon.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of initiatives that drive continuous improvement and innovation within the legal function and across the business.
About You
  • Admitted to practice as a Legal Practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland and holding a current practicing certificate.
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years' post-admission experience, with experience at a leading law firm in private practice or relevant in-house experience in a large corporate environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build relationships effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage matters independently from start to finish, with high commercial acumen and the capacity to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
