Job Title: Director, Governance

As the largest non-government education system in Australia, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead its governance and legal functions.

About the Role

The Director, Governance will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of legal and professional standards, governance, and information management. This role will involve providing expert legal and commercial advice to the Executive Director and leadership team, ensuring that MACS operates within canonical and civil law, and that its rights are adequately protected.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team and provide strategic guidance on governance and legal matters
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations
  • Provide expert legal and commercial advice to the Executive Director and leadership team
  • Manage and maintain relationships with government and regulatory bodies
  • Embed mature risk-based decision making in dynamic organisations
Requirements
  • Proven experience as General Counsel in a large organisation - listed or unlisted
  • Recognised as a collaborative and collegiate professional and executive leader with outstanding legal, commercial, governance, and advisory skills
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and proven judgement
  • Experience in education or related industries
  • Demonstrated effectiveness engaging with critical stakeholders
