We are seeking an exceptional Design Systems Engineer to join our innovative team at Canva, where you will have the opportunity to redefine how the world experiences design.

About the Role

  • Build scalable backend systems using Java and other cutting-edge technologies to generate and edit designs
  • Collaborate closely with ML engineers, frontend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver state-of-the-art design generation systems and techniques
  • Owning the full lifecycle of features, from design documents to implementation, testing, and maintenance
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in deep learning and generative AI and apply them to our domain at Canva
  • Foster knowledge sharing and effectively advocate for engineering needs to non-technical stakeholders

Your Background

  • Interest in the latest developments in deep learning and generative AI, with experience or strong interest in design
  • Commercial experience in software development environments, building scalable backend systems
  • Proficiency in Java (or similar object-oriented programming languages)
  • Strong computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns
