Carer Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Carer Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a Lived and Living Experience Carer Peer Worker, you will work collaboratively with the clinical team to promote the wellbeing of our clients by providing one-to-one peer support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide empathetic and informed peer support to families, carers and supporters of individuals impacted by mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Support carers in discovering their own solutions and empowering them to take ownership of the journey.
  • Encourage and facilitate referrals to internal and external services, family/carer/supporter support groups and education.

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Lived and/or living experience of supporting a loved one navigating the Victorian public mental health system due to emotional dysregulation, mental health and/or AoD challenges.
  • Sound understanding of mental health peer support principles and ability to use peer support to provide hope and recovery.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent.
  • Intentional Peer Support Training or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the Area Mental Health Service and principles and practices of DHHS Recovery-Oriented Practice in Mental Health.
