Position Overview

The Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network is transitioning to a Consumer Directed Care framework for delivering aged care, disability, and support services.

As a Community Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in facilitating this care model by offering services such as personal assistance, housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, and social engagement to elderly, frail, or disabled individuals who wish to continue living independently in their homes.

Successful community support workers are expected to be adaptable, diligent, and compassionate, capable of working independently within the community. You will collaborate closely with consumers, their families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality outcomes and promote consumer autonomy whenever possible.

Eligibility & Requirements

The ideal candidate must be reachable by phone, flexible, and willing to work a 5-day roster with varied hours and shifts, including weekends as necessary. While the primary location is on Kangaroo Island, there may be a need to work from other facilities within the Barossa Hills Fleurieu region.

A valid driver's license is essential, along with access to a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle (minimum third-party insurance required).

Experience working with Aboriginal consumers is crucial, as is the ability to engage with the Aboriginal community in a culturally sensitive manner. A willingness to pursue further training in this area is also expected.

Desirable Qualifications

Current first aid certification Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care, Disability, or Home and Community) Certificate IV in Disability

Appointment is contingent upon a satisfactory Criminal History Check and compliance with immunization requirements.

DHS Working With Children Check (WWCC) DHS National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Check National Police Certificate (NPC) for roles involving unsupervised contact with vulnerable populations, such as aged care or vulnerable clients

Immunization Risk Category

This position falls under Category A (Direct Contact with blood or body substances).
