Empowerment Coordinator Role

This role involves connecting with First Nations children and their families to determine the best support for their improved independence, social participation, and quality of life.

  • The coordinator will work closely with local communities to build networks and pathways that promote inclusion opportunities for First Nations children with disabilities and their families.
Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with First Nations people to understand their needs and provide support to First Nations families.
  • Provide knowledge of developmental milestones for children aged 0-9 years and connect with local First Nations communities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of typical childhood development and the impact of disability and developmental delay on a First Nations child and their family.
  • Build working relationships with local community and mainstream services to promote a culturally safe work environment.
  • Apply knowledge of the Child Protection Legislation and the principles of Keep Them Safe.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Early Childhood or Allied Health profession.
  • A reference from an Aboriginal Organisation, Corporation or Community Elders Group.
  • Confirmation of Aboriginality with common seal.
  • Current Driver's Licence - P1 minimum.
  • Valid Working with Children's Check Clearance – mandatory.
  • Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDIS WC) or willingness to obtain – mandatory.
  • Working Rights in Australia for Full-Time Employment.
  • Successful pre-employment probity check.
