Marine Vessel Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Marine Vessel Engineer to join our team on a full-time or part-time, seasonal contract. The successful candidate will perform daily preventative maintenance tasks and will be responsible for maintaining the safe mechanical operation of vessels ensuring all repairs are conducted safely and efficiently as per set procedures.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated positive attitude, flexibility to work varied hours including weekends and public holidays, and excellent customer service skills ensuring to meet guest expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily engine and machinery checks on assigned vessels
  • Assist Master with the management and safe operations of the vessel in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Diagnose system problems as and when they occur
  • Ensure all maintenance requirements and ramifications are recorded
  • Coordinate and maintain effective vessel preventative maintenance programs
  • Accurately maintain logs and work orders through to job completion and sign off
  • Liaise and co-ordinate servicing and repairs with shore support as required
  • Assist with securing vessels at the various marinas and island jetties
  • Be involved in safety drill practices as required by the Master
  • Assist with guest experience duties including meeting and greeting of guests
Requirements:
  • Experienced Marine Engineer with minimum MED 2 or, MED 1 qualification (preferably within the Marine Tourism industry);
  • Good level of marine engine and system knowledge;
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and introducing practical safety measures;
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills with customer service resolution skill;
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team;
  • Flexibility to work varied hours including weekends and public holidays;
