Director of Compensation, Benefits and Retirement

About the Role

The Director of Compensation, Benefits and Retirement will lead the development and implementation of compensation, benefits, and retirement programs aligned with our workforce strategy to attract, retain, and motivate our workforce. This includes corporate payroll in Canada and the US, leading a team of 8 with 3 direct reports, and promoting Agnico Eagle's values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and environmental responsibilities.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of accurate payroll generation for Toronto and US payrolls; processing of payroll transactions and activity, ensuring compliance, proper maintenance, and filing;
  • Process improvement initiatives to streamline, standardize, and improve payroll activities;
  • Administration, audit, communication, approvals of annual Equity process for all executives and employees, including PSUs, RSUs, Options, and ESPP;
  • Management of relationships with Shareworks to ensure employee accounts are accurate and managed effectively;
  • Vendor relationship management, ensuring service standards are met and employees receive the greatest benefit of external systems;
  • Benefits and retirement program management, including executive plans, ensuring programs stay within budget;
  • Analysing trends and program effectiveness, providing insights to leadership for decision making;
  • Leading Open Enrollment for benefits across Canada, coordinating regional benefits administrators, facilitating open enrollment meetings for employees, and ensuring accuracy of information submitted to carriers;
  • Proactive strategies based on actual data to manage cost and continuously improve processes;
  • Collaboration with stakeholders on a wellness strategy based on available data;
  • Annual audit and financial statement preparation related to existing pension plans; timely filing of all plan compliance documents and maintaining up-to-date records;
  • Ensuring employee plan communications meet regulatory requirements; supporting the Pension Committee and related committee decisions;
  • Delivery and continuous improvement of annual compensation cycles, including annual bonus, salary increase, LTI, etc.; communicating and managing change efforts to ensure clear understanding and consistent adoption of compensation programs across the business;
  • Ensuring analytics of market trends, benchmarking data, and internal data to ensure competitiveness and optimization of total rewards programs;
  • Planning and delegating tasks for and to team members according to work nature and respective workloads;
  • Managing budgets and external vendor agreements;
  • Updating policies or implementing as required;
  • Overseeing expatriate agreements and processes;
  • Supporting various HR projects.
