Advancement Manager Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of Sydney. As an Advancement Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the academic success and wellbeing of these students.

The Advancement Manager will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of targeted academic support services, managing staff performance, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure culturally safe and effective student outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures, as well as demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring, and performance management of staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the advancement team with a strong emphasis on improving academic outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of programs and services that promote academic progression, retention, and completion.
  • Provide academic guidance and mentoring to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Develop and implement tailored learning support initiatives that promote academic progression, retention, and completion.
  • Liaise with other University Units to embed culturally responsive policies, procedures, and support frameworks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Manage and develop staff to ensure high-quality delivery of academic and student support services.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring, and performance management of staff.
  • Strong computer literacy skills, particularly in corporate level databases and information systems.
  • Excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve required outcomes.
  • Effective and tactful communication skills together with strong problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement.
