Welcome to Virgin Australia, where we're looking for an exceptional Aviation Medicine Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Group Medical department, you'll provide specialist aeromedical operational support and undertake clinical duties in support of our in-house medical team.

This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled medical professional to contribute to the development of our medical capability, including research, analysis, and policy implementation. You'll work closely with our Group Medical Officer and collaborate with the clinical team to provide medical advice, case management, and quality assurance activities.

As an Aviation Medicine Specialist, you'll be responsible for providing Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) advice, completing day-to-day oversight of team member fitness for duty cases, and providing medical advice to the company/safety team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing DAME advice to management and the flight crew community, including fitness to fly assessments.
  • Acting as a Medical Review Officer (MRO) for all drug and alcohol-related issues.
  • Completing day-to-day oversight of team member fitness for duty cases.
  • Providing medical advice to the company/safety team, including public health advice and regulatory risk assessment.
  • Working with the clinical team on passenger health form approvals (MEDAs) and pre-employment medical assessment reviews.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A medical degree.
  • Current unrestricted medical registration in Australia.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a DAME under Part 67 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations.
  • Fellowship of a relevant medical college, such as FRACGP or FAFOEM.
