ROLE OVERVIEW

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our headquarters.

The Principal External Communications is responsible for crafting engaging narratives and messaging that effectively communicate South32's value and enhance our reputation. Collaborating with various teams both locally and globally, you will create impactful content and communication strategies that resonate with our diverse stakeholders.

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Communications, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining South32's corporate narrative and positioning on significant topics by working closely with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Overseeing global positioning initiatives for the CEO and other senior leaders, including securing speaking opportunities, drafting speeches, and collaborating with communications teams to amplify key messages.
  • Leading the company's Issues Management process and maintaining the global issues register, participating in crisis communication teams as necessary.
  • Creating content for external channels, including engaging website copy and assisting with the Annual Reporting Suite, while adhering to strict governance processes.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in an external communications role, ideally within a publicly listed multinational company in the resources sector.
  • Extensive experience in content creation across various platforms, including speech writing, corporate reporting, and digital communications.
  • Strong expertise in issues management and crisis communication strategies.
  • Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build trust and foster mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable to connect with all levels of the organization.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, public relations, or business.
