ABOUT OUR PERTH OFFICE

South32's corporate headquarters is situated in the heart of Perth's central business district. The office accommodates key functions including Human Resources, Finance, External Affairs, Sustainability Strategy, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, Legal, and Technical Services. Our location is conveniently accessible.

ROLE OVERVIEW

This is a full-time, permanent role at our head office.

The Senior External Communications Strategist is responsible for crafting engaging narratives, messaging, and corporate positioning to enhance stakeholder understanding of South32's contributions and to safeguard and elevate our reputation. By collaborating with various teams in our headquarters and across global locations, you will create impactful content and external communication strategies that effectively convey South32's story to diverse audiences.

Reporting to the Corporate Communications Manager, key responsibilities include:

Developing and sustaining South32's corporate narrative and positioning on critical topics, creating messages through collaboration with key internal stakeholders and subject matter experts. Managing global positioning strategies for the CEO and other executive team members, including identifying and securing speaking opportunities, drafting speeches, and collaborating with communications colleagues to amplify key messages. Leading the company's Issues Management process and maintaining the global issues register. Participating in crisis communication teams as necessary. Creating content for external channels, from developing engaging website copy to assisting with drafting and editing the Annual Reporting Suite, while adhering to stringent governance processes.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will possess experience and demonstrate proficiency in the following:

8+ years of experience in an external communications role, preferably within a publicly listed multinational corporation in the resources sector. Extensive experience in content creation across various platforms, including speech writing, corporate reporting, and digital and social media content. Strong expertise in developing and executing issues management and crisis communication strategies. Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to navigate complex issues and formulate appropriate responses. Proven ability to build trust and foster enduring, mutually beneficial relationships. Communication skills that enable effective engagement at all organizational levels, adapting approach and style as necessary for different audiences.

Qualifications for this position include:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, public relations, business, or related disciplines.
