Quality Assurance Specialist

The key responsibilities of this role include:
Assign accurate morbidity and procedural classifications to episodes of care in a timely manner:
Extract relevant information from patient records, both paper and electronic, as well as clinical information systems;
Liaise with team members and clinicians to clarify information and correct inaccuracies or omissions;
Identify discrepancies between clinical information systems and patient records and feedback through appropriate channels; and
Review Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) allocation in conjunction with associated information such as length of stay, specialty, and care type.

About the role

This position requires expertise and experience in quality management activities related to coded data, including coder audits, DRG targeted audits, service-wide coding audits, and performance indicators for coding quality review.
Demonstrated experience in training staff and facilitating coding education programs is also essential.
Excellent communication skills are required to enable effective interaction with individuals and groups, as well as the ability to coordinate and motivate teams and communicate with staff at all levels.
Expert knowledge of accurate DRG assignment principles for Activity Based Funding and Queensland Health key performance indicators such as VLADs is necessary.

Mandatory Requirements:

Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification in the International Classification of Diseases and Operations with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements.
