Job Overview:

This is a key position within our organization, focusing on building trust and understanding between our team and the community, particularly local First Nations communities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to our team members on effective communication with community members, including advice on local Aboriginal and Torres Strait customs and protocols.

  • Offer input to relevant stakeholders on balancing cultural, policing, QPCYWA, and community needs.

  • Assist the community in accessing our services, including referrals to other community services as needed.

  • Support the delivery of various activities in a safe environment to meet community needs, with a focus on young people.

  • Contribute to developing and implementing crime prevention/youth/community development programs to promote community engagement through PCYC Programs.

  • Maintain contact with community leaders by participating in meetings, forums, events, and festivals, ensuring their input on policing issues.

  • Communicate sensitively with community members to prevent offensive behavior, violence, unrest, and potential crime.

Requirements:

  • This role involves driving QPS vehicles; the incumbent must hold a Queensland 'C' class driver's license or have the ability to acquire one.

  • The position requires wearing a Police Liaison Officer uniform and adhering to the QPS Code of Dress and Appearance.

  • The role may involve weekend work and shift work to attend local festivals and forums, and to meet policing needs in the local area – shift penalties and overtime may apply.

  • Successful applicants will be required to complete the first available Police Liaison Officer Initial Employment Training program at the Queensland Police Service Academy, Oxley.
