First Nations Police Liaison Officer Role

This position offers an opportunity to develop trust and understanding between members of the Queensland Police Service and local First Nations communities. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing advice on local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customs and protocols, guiding stakeholders on cultural awareness, and assisting the community in accessing policing and youth services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist police officers to communicate effectively with the local community by providing guidance on cultural protocols and customs
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders to balance cultural, policing, QPCYWA, and community needs
  • Assist in delivering and developing activities that meet the needs of the community, focusing on young people
  • Maintain contact with community leaders through meetings, forums, events, and festivals to ensure input of community concerns in policing issues
Requirements
  • Identified position requiring a First Nations person
  • Ability to hold a Queensland 'C' class driver's licence or acquire one
  • Willingness to work a set roster, including weekend work and shift work
  • Capacity to complete the Police Liaison Officer Initial Employment Training program
