**Job Description -**
- Animal Training and Husbandry
Our team seeks an individual with expertise in training animals using positive reinforcement techniques. Key responsibilities include:
- Cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures, including general husbandry tasks.
- Assisting with planning and construction of safe enclosures for all staff, contractors, and animals.
- Conducting safe animal handling techniques under senior handler guidance.
- Monitoring animal health and reporting concerns to the Head of Department and Veterinarian.
- Preparing food and conducting feeding according to dietary requirements and schedules.
- Maintaining records of animal behavior and breeding via ZIMS.
- Conducting environment and enclosure safety checks to ensure the health and safety of all parties.
- Undertaking enrichment programs tailored to individual animals.
- Providing excellent customer service at all times.
- Assisting with preparing animals for travel, minimizing stress.
- Delivering educational presentations and demonstrations to the public.
- Knowledge of basic husbandry requirements and conservation programs.
- Participating in performance reviews and training opportunities.
- Adhering to established policies and procedures.
**Requirements -**
- Minimum 1 year experience working with elephants and large animals.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in the captive animal industry.
- Experience conducting enriching activities, exercising, and husbandry routines.
- Sound knowledge of elephant dietary requirements and ability to construct feeding regimes.
- Demonstrated ability to handle conflict and high-pressure situations.
- Experience conducting health checks on large species.
- Knowledge of zoonotic diseases and up-to-date immunizations.
- Knowledge of our organization's mission and goals.
- Manual driver's license and reliable vehicle.
- High level of physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks.
- 7-day availability, including weekends and public holidays.
- Proof of Coronavirus Vaccination (unless exempt).
