About the OpportunityWe are seeking a Community Support Specialist to join our team in Gungahlin, working within the Commonwealth Psychosocial Support (CPS) Program. As a Peer Worker, you will support individuals accessing our services who have a lived experience of mental health issues to build capacity in their day-to-day lives.
Daily Responsibilities:- Listens to and creates opportunities and activities that meet the interests and goals of people.
- Encourages shared learning experiences and supports skill development at every opportunity through self-directed learning, information, and education.
- Ensures that individual support is provided to a person accessing Flourish Australia services that meets their recovery journey goals and is strengths-based and led by the person wherever possible.
- Is hands-on and involved in direct service delivery.
The Community Support Specialist will work closely with individuals, families, and communities to provide support and guidance in achieving their hopes and dreams. You will be an integral part of our team, providing person-led, strengths-focused, recovery-based services.
This is a short-term program aiming to assist people with severe and complex mental health challenges to build capacity in their day-to-day lives. You will support people to live independently, safely, and productively in their community, form meaningful connections, and connect them with clinical care and other services.
RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Certificate IV or above in a relevant field OR a minimum of 2 years full-time experience working in the human services field (as recognised by Flourish Australia).
- A strong commitment to recovery-based practice in the workplace.
- A personal lived experience of a mental health issue and recovery.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by people with a lived experience of a mental health issue.
- An understanding of, and ability to effectively use, Microsoft Office and knowledge of data information management systems.
- A current Australian Driver's Licence.
