A key role of the Australian Defence Force, the Submariner Communication Specialist is responsible for the management, analysis, and monitoring of communications, signals, and systems to maintain seamless connectivity throughout the submarine.


As a specialist, you will operate the Navy's subsurface communication and IT systems, ensuring the security and integrity of information exchange. Your duties will include receiving, sending, and providing communication and information to relevant stakeholders, Command, and crew.


This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities, including:



  • Communicating through radio and satellite links
  • Handling classified and sensitive information and material
  • Operating and coordinating telecommunication and IT systems
  • Network administration, security, system diagnosis, and recovery
  • Providing specialist communications advice to Command
  • Encoding and decoding signals and classified information
  • Search and rescue
  • Cyber security
