Medical Coders play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of healthcare data management. This dynamic position requires an individual with strong analytical skills to interpret medical records, coding data, and contributing to the development of high-quality patient care.

As part of our team, you will be responsible for:

  • Coding inpatient episodes by analyzing medical records using ICD-10-AM classification system while adhering to Australian Coding Standards.
  • Entering coded data into the Patient Administration System (PAS) and completing cancer registration notifications.
  • Monitoring and reporting discrepancies in Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) during the coding process.
  • Participating in audits, training, and team meetings to enhance coding accuracy and data quality.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Successful completion of a recognized clinical coding qualification (e.g., HIMAA) or a Health Information Management degree and/or significant coding experience in a tertiary hospital.
  • A minimum of 12 months' experience in clinical coding using ICD-10-AM classification system and sound knowledge of current Australian Coding Standards.
  • Demonstrated detailed understanding of DRG assignment and the relationship between Clinical Coding and Activity-Based Funding.
  • Demonstrated experience using computerized systems such as Solventum Codefinder software and Patient Administration System (PAS).
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload and competing priorities, including the ability to meet set deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
