Child Health Specialist

The role of the Child Health Specialist is to lead early childhood health outreach across Central Australia, making a lasting impact on children and families in diverse, remote communities.

Job Description

This specialist position provides clinical outreach care to children under 5 years and their families. The specialist will work in the Healthy under 5 Kids Partnering Families program to deliver early intervention strategies and education to Population and Primary Health Care staff, focusing on improving the health and wellbeing of children and their families in a culturally appropriate manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct growth and development assessments, vaccinations, parenting support, and advice in age-specific child health checks through the HU5 KPF program.
  • Collaborate with Population and Primary Health Care staff to improve child and family health outcomes.
  • Travel to remote communities by 4WD or light aircraft as required.
Requirements:
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligibility for same.
  • High-level clinical knowledge and skills in Child and Family Health or related field, supported by strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to a learning culture through clinical guidance and mentoring.
  • Ability to travel to remote communities.
